Taking a Break
I think it has been pretty evident over the past few weeks/months since Spike’s birth that I haven’t found a rhythm to blogging as a stay at home Mom. No matter what I’ve tried, I can’t seem to consistently find the time to devote to blogging the way I have for the majority of the past two years. And each day that I don’t post I feel a sense of guilt. Of worry. That I’m letting someone down. That I’ll miss out on some opportunity or lose a reader or forget that great story I wanted to tell.
Like I think lots of people that have been blogging for a while do, I find myself composing posts in my head at strange times… in the shower, standing in line at the grocery store, driving in the car. I just can’t seem to find the time to actually write them down. And then I realized I’d been lying to myself. If blogging were truly a priority in my life right now, I’d make the time for it. When I thought about it like that, I realized that it just…wasn’t.
I love this blog. I’ve had some amazing opportunities because of it. I’ve met great people and learned so much. Having this blog as an outlet after my miscarriage helped me heal in a way I don’t think anything else could have.
But right now, at this moment in my life, I don’t have anything to devote to it. And instead of feeling guilty as each day passes and I don’t write or post on Facebook or tweet, I’m just going to admit that this isn’t where my heart is right now. I’m going to make the conscious choice to disconnect a little and not feel badly about it.
I may be in back in a few weeks, I may take the summer off, I may decide blogging just isn’t for me at all anymore. I don’t really want to think that long term.
For now, I’m going to spend a little more time just staring at Spike while he’s still small and not trying to multitask so much. A little more time giving Bink big hugs and snuggling while watching cartoons. A little more time talking with K. A little more time smooching my Hubby. And a little more time baking, and reading for fun, and playing with my camera, and taking nature walks with the kids, and swimming at the beach, and keeping the laundry piles under control.
And a lot less time feeling guilty over those choices.
Missing

Does it feel like I’ve been missing from this space? It’s probably because I am. I hardly sit still, let alone see my laptop anymore. My iPad has been commandeered by an (almost) three year old Mac Genius. The only way I even see the internet is to catch brief glimpses on my iPhone when [...]
Wordless Wednesday: Beach Time

One of the things I love about living in our neighborhood is the beach. There is a tiny inlet just behind our row of townhouses that you would have to live on our street to even know about. Which means little competition for the small patch of sand and lots of water for Bink to [...]
Taking Care of Yourself {And a Giveaway}

I’m still figuring out this whole stay at home Mom thing. Some days I think I’ve got it all figured out …everyone is showered, fed, and entertained and dinner even made it on the table. Other days no one goes down for a nap, Bink answers everything I say with “no”, and I realize as [...]
Spike’s Video Debut
My Mom pointed out to me on Wednesday night that I hasn’t taken much video of Spike. And she was completely right. While I have minute by minute video coverage of Bink’s first year, I’ve taken about five short videos in the first two months of Spike’s life. So, for your viewing enjoyment, here is [...]

Teaching a Toddler About Life with a Newborn

When Spike was on the way, we started early trying to prepare Bink for big brotherhood. Books about being a big brother. A big sibling episode of his favorite cartoon. And talking about the baby coming soon. I don’t really know that any of those things ever sank in for Bink. The best thing we [...]
Why I’m Staying Home

Illustrated through iPhone pictures… Coffee in my PJs with a snuggly baby on my lap and a toddler by my side. Morning arts and crafts projects. Playtime at the “baby gym”. A lunch time swim at the beach. After nap piano concerts. Playtime on the floor. Double bath time. Bed.
Ultimate Blog Party 2012

For the past two years I’ve participated in the Ultimate Blog Party each April. It is a great way to find other blogs to read and bloggers to connect with. This year’s party sneaked up on me a little, what with the six week old at home. For my wonderful current readers, skip this post [...]
Staying Home

I wasn’t really sure what to expect from my transition to working to staying home with the kids. For the first four weeks after Spike’s arrival we continued to send Bink to daycare. That gave me a chance to sleep when the baby slept and for Bink’s routine not too get too messed up until [...]

I’ll post later this week with adorable pictures of the boys and [...]

Spike’s Arrival

Bah! Yesterday Spike turned four weeks old! I’m not sure how that happened so quickly. But since the past four weeks have really just felt like one giant, endless day, punctuated with a few short naps, I suppose it is possible. I realized that in the post-newborn fog, that I never shared Spike’s birth story. [...]
Comparing the Kids

I’ve gotten a few requests to see pictures of all three kids as newborns. It’s funny to see how similar and different they all look, even though they’d only been around for a few hours when each of these pictures were taken. Before I show you those pictures, I finally settled on a nickname for [...]
