We Did It!
Way back in January, I started training for a 5K. At first it was in sort of a vague way. I started the Couch to 5K program using their iPod app, but didn’t have an actual race in mind. So for a few months, I followed the plan, but without a final goal in mind it wasn’t really “real”.
K’s has also been training for 5K through a school program–Girls on the Run (if you have tween girls, look into it, it’s been great!). Unfortunately, her big finale 5K that they run as a team is next weekend and we’ll be out of town for a wedding. I promised her that we’d find a race to run together that took place right around her race, so we ended up with a date in mind.
The race was adorable–it was a small, fund-raising race for a local elementary school–and perfect for beginners. There were a bunch of runners, but not so many it was overwhelming.
Ready, set, go!:
The cheering section:
And, done!
Long story short: We did it! K ran the race in 37:50 and I ran it 42:05. That’s a full five minutes faster than my practice run last weekend!
After the race we grabbed breakfast, ran some errands, and I finished getting ready for the GE Momsperience. I came down, all ready to go, to this:
The two people who did no running sound asleep on the couch!
Traveling to Louisville for Momsperience took much longer than it should have–we were delayed for two hours on the runway. I was so glad that Bink wasn’t with me. A two hour delay for me was an excuse to read my book and have quiet time, not a catastrophe like it would have been with a toddler. Everyone at GE was amazing in getting helping me get settled in when I did finally arrive.
I’ll write lots more about this when I get back home, but in a nutshell: Wine. Nutella gelato. Derby hats.

Congratulations on the 5k and so exciting that K ran it with you!
And of course the dudes were asleep on the couch after the run. It’s hard work watching all the runners.
